It is Keizer Art Association's privilege and distinct pleasure to honor Karen Stangeby as our Artist of the month. Karen is an accomplished and recognized artist having won several awards for her outstanding art.

Artist's Statement

I have always had an interest in art, and after working in oils and acrylics chose to concentrate entirely on watercolor. The flow of the paint mixing and blending together, applying rich dark colors against the pure white paper are some of the characteristics I find so appealing.

I was fortunate to take classes with Milford Zornes who was one of the original California scene painters and with a well known Canadian landscape painter Zoltan Szabo. Their work and encouragement has been my motivation to keep painting and to develop my own style.

Much of my inspiration comes from barns, old houses, fields and magnificent trees that make up the Oregon scenery.

My aim is to paint in a loose and spontaneous style using a large brush. As I continue in my painting journey my objective is to draw less and focus more on allowing the colors to mix and blend creating an appealing impression.
